Plain-English guide to renting a private yacht in Miami in 2026: USD pricing, departure marinas, routes (Star Island, Stiltsville, Haulover), USCG-licensed captains, and how to book.

By Eduardo Mata · · 8 min

Renting a private yacht in Miami in 2026 starts at $800 USD for a 4-hour charter on a 26 ft sport boat and runs up to $5,000+ USD for a 75-100 ft luxury yacht. Every Altamar Charters yacht in Miami ships with a USCG-licensed captain, fuel, water, ice, coolers, and snorkel gear included — no surprise add-ons at settlement.

This guide covers what you need to know before booking: which marinas you depart from, fleet sizes, typical routes, USCG capacity caps, and the WhatsApp-based booking flow. Written from inside the operation — we answer the WhatsApp messages.

Where do yachts depart in Miami?

In Miami we operate from three marinas, each suited to different parts of the city:

  • Miami River Marina: downtown Miami, walking distance to Brickell. Best access to Biscayne Bay and quick reach to Star Island.
  • Sea Isle Marina: north of downtown near Edgewater. Direct route to Star Island, Hibiscus Island, and Indian Creek.
  • Bayside Marina: directly at Bayside Marketplace (downtown Miami). Most convenient for cruise-day travelers and visitors staying in Brickell or downtown hotels.

We confirm the exact departure marina at booking based on the yacht you select. Check-in is 30 minutes before scheduled departure (USCG-required briefing time).

How much does a yacht charter cost in Miami?

  • Compact (26-38 ft sport boats): $800–$1,200 USD / 4 hr. Best for couples and groups up to 6. Examples: Sundeck 26, Cobalt 30.
  • Mid-size (40-55 ft motor yachts): $1,200–$2,500 USD / 4 hr. Up to 12-13 guests. Sea Ray Sundancer, Azimut 50, Sunseeker Manhattan 50.
  • Premium (55-75 ft): $2,500–$4,000 USD / 4 hr. USCG-capped at 13 guests in most cases. Sunseeker Manhattan 60, Princess V58, Azimut 60.

USCG capacity note

In U.S. waters, most charter yachts under 100 GT (gross tonnage) are capped at 12 guests + crew per USCG. Larger yachts can accommodate more, but require a different captain license. We always quote within USCG-legal capacity.

Typical Miami routes

You pick the route within your contracted window. Popular itineraries in 2026:

  • Star Island & Hibiscus Island — cruise past celebrity mansions (Diddy, J.Lo, Shakira). 20 min from any marina. Standard on most Miami charters.
  • Stiltsville — 7 historic wood houses on stilts in Biscayne Bay (built 1930s-60s). 30 min south. Pure photo gold.
  • Haulover Sandbar — famous Miami party sandbar. Anchor, swim, vibe. Saturday/Sunday it gets packed.
  • Key Biscayne / Crandon Park — calmer waters, family-friendly, snorkel-able.
  • Bayside Skyline cruise — sunset run along Miami Beach and downtown skyline. Best for 4-hour evening charters.
  • Nikki Beach (South Beach) drop — anchor and dinghy to Nikki for lunch or drinks. Allow 4-6 hours total.

Capacity and group size

USCG regulations cap most charter yachts under 100 GT at 12 guests + crew. Our Miami fleet ranges from 6 to 13 guests per charter.

For larger groups (15-30 people), we coordinate two yachts with synchronized departure — same overall cost as one mega-yacht, but the group can split by preferences (e.g., families on one boat, couples on the other).

Season considerations

December–May is peak season in Miami: dry, warm, mild winds. Prices run 10-15% higher and weekend availability tightens — book 2-3 weeks ahead.

June–November is hurricane season. Day charters still run most days, but if NOAA issues a coastal warning we reschedule or refund 100%. September–October are statistically the most active months for storms.
